David Martin Sr

On December 23, 2023, David Franklin Martin Sr. completed his mission on Earth and graduated into the arms of the Almighty God, having done well as a good and faithful servant. David is preceded in death by his parents, Walter & Catherine, and his son, David Jr. He is survived by his family, including his wife Mildred of 62 years, sons, Michael & Matthew, daughters-in-law, Rebecca & Kim, brother & sister-in-law Lewis & Donna, Sister, and brother-in-law Ann & John Eller. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Michael, Miranda, Trey & Chaseten, great-grandchildren, Avery, Weston, and David IV and several beloved nieces & nephews.

He leaves behind his beloved church family at the Gaston Church of Christ, where he served as Minister for 30 years. He often talked about his church family and events such as cookouts, pizza/bingo nights and Brunswick Stew fundraisers. David is remembered by all for his love towards everyone, his easy going demeanor, and his dedication to the Lord, the Church, and his family.

David served in the Army National Guard, from 1964-1967. In 1979, he graduated with a B.S. in Ministry from Mid-Atlantic Christian University. He preached at churches in Florida, Alabama, West Virginia, Texas, and North Carolina. He was known for preaching “fire & brimstone” from the beginning, and refused to succumb to requests to stop preaching biblical topics that offended people. He enjoyed sharing life with family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Gone, but never gone from our hearts, until we meet him again in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held at the Gaston Church of Christ located at 309 Pleasant Hill Road, Gaston, NC on Saturday, January 27, at 11:30, luncheon to follow.
