Our mom, Ruth (Akin) King, passed away in January 2020 at the age of 96. Ruth had a laugh and a smile for everyone that will be forever remembered. She was the wife of Capt. Harold King (U.S. Air Force), who supported scientific heart research, blood donation and was an organ donor. He was involved in heart research in the 60’s and 70’s and encouraged his family to contribute as well.

Ruth was the mother of three and grandmother to 26. An avid reader, Ruth, or Ruthie as her closet family and friends called her, often read a book a day. She loved lilac, visiting with friends and family, dining out, taking drives – especially around the lake to see Tundra Swans, and attending dog and horse shows. She contributed to a military wives cookbook and wrote a children’s book titled “Ruffles the Red Pony”.

To accommodate her hearing loss, she remained a faithful and devoted friend and had written correspondence to many acquaintances and family members across the United States. Ruth especially loved going to the fair. Ruth and Harold raised Show Shetland Ponies and they competed regularly. Ruthie had a fondness for farm life — chickens, rabbits and wildlife. She gardened, loved houseplants and flowers. Ruth also was a 30 year Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer survivor.

Thank you, MedCure, for allowing mom to leave a legacy of helping develop safer surgical procedures, and techniques for improving and saving lives for generations to come!
