Judith Kay Bennett

Judith Kay Bennett (Reed), beloved wife, mother and sister passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center in Port Orange surrounded by family and friends. She was 60 years old and had been a resident of the Daytona Beach area since 1976. Judith is survived by her husband James, daughter Valerie Bennett Goldy, son-in-law Aaron Goldy, and sisters Connie Filanowski of Herndon, VA, Shiela Swan of Monteverde, FL and Deborah Filanowski of Pine Grove, PA. Judith was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Jack A. Reed and Berniece E. Casto and grew up in Nutterfort, WV. She attended West Virginia University, and later travelled to Hawaii, and Oklahoma before settling in Florida. In 1979, Judith married her soul mate, James H. Bennett, and together they managed the Turtle Inn for 3 years. During Judith’s career she worked for the Hilton in Daytona Beach for over 10 years then at the Daytona Beach News-Journal for 17 years as credit manager. At the end of her career, Judith worked as an Administrative Assistant at Bethune-Cookman University for 5 years; enjoying working with students in the Admissions office at B-CU. She was a member of the AMCEA for many years and volunteered with the local Democratic Party and PTA. Judith, is remembered by her friends and family for her: infectious laugh and smile, her great sense of humor and wit, and as one of the kindest people in the world. Judith was an animal lover; adoring her dogs and cats.
