James Henderson Bennett II

James Henderson Bennett II, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, after a short illness. Jim was born January 10, 1949, in Daytona Beach, FL, and came from a long line of native Floridians in Port Orange, Florida. Jim is survived by his daughter Valerie Shank-Bennett, son-in-law Jason Shank, granddaughters Maizy Bennett-Goldy and Ellington Shank, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith K. Bennett (Reed), along with his parents, Lawrence C. and Thelma Bennett; his brothers Lawrence E. Bennett and Jesse Bennett; and his sister, Ruth Yuzzolin. Jim grew up in Port Orange, FL, and worked many years with his father in the family Bennett Brothers Plastering Company. He attended the University of Florida and studied English. He was forever a Gator Fan. In 1979, Jim married his soul mate, Judith, and together they managed the Turtle Inn for three years. Jim spent his career as a registered land surveyor in the state of Florida. Jim is remembered by his friends and family for being caring, gentle, intelligent , a great sense of humor, and devotion to his family. Jim had many hobbies that included surfing, sailing, shaping surfboards, carpentry, photography, building models, and gardening. Jim was also a devoted grandfather, willing to drop everything to play with his granddaughters, which always brought him great joy and created fond memories. Jim loved all animals and always had a special way with dogs and cats. Jim is greatly missed by his family and friends, but they are grateful for the time they did have on this earth together.
