Our mother was a giver. She gave her time and resources to her family and church. One of her greatest gifts was 63 years ago when she gave up her newborn baby boy for adoption. In her later years, Mom spoke of him often, especially after my father passed away. Sometimes she cried, wondering about him and if she had “done the right thing.”

When Mom’s cancer returned and spread, I decided one morning to try to find our “brother” without Mom knowing. I didn’t have much information except his name, birthdate, and the hospital where he was born. I wasn’t successful. That same afternoon, I received a text and then a phone call from him! I could hear the excitement from his wife in the background saying, “Things happen for a reason!” I don’t believe in coincidence. He said this was something he knew he “needed to do” and that “it’s time.”

He was able to make two trips from 2,000 miles away. On the second and last trip, he brought his wife and four of his adult children. What a happy reunion that was. Mom’s final wish of having a picture of her four children together was fulfilled before she gave her last “gift” to MedCure.
